WARDOGS on Reddit: what players praise and what they complain about

WARDOGS players talk mostly on r/WarDogs, and the posts there point one way: people who click with the squad system call it some of the best teamwork gaming they have had in years, while the two recurring complaints are the very long weapon-unlock grind and the seasonal progression resets. The slow grind is not a secret — the developers tuned progression that way on purpose and openly tell unsure players to wait or refund. Every quote below was copied word for word from a post we opened on October 26, 2026, and the link beside each quote goes to the real thread.

What players praise on r/WarDogs

1. Squad teamwork makes the moments people remember

In the post “Wardogs is amazing”, u/chk28 describes a night of group attacks on enemy bases: “we made lasting memories attacking and destroying multiple fobs. This is what my group expected from wardogs.” Read the thread

2. Organized community play feels like discovering competitive gaming again

u/5GisNotOP joined an organized pick-up match on a community server and wrote: “This brought me back feeling like I was a 16-year-old discovering organized competitive gaming again.” Read the thread

3. Open squads reward organic teamwork — no commander needed

Recommending the built-in squad system, u/tiedyemightbehigh wrote: “I had amazing games joining open squads with a bunch of infantry frontliners, where we roamed and dominated with no true leader.” Read the thread

What players complain about on r/WarDogs

1. Unlocking a class's weapons takes too long

u/Legacypicker's post title is the whole complaint: “Time to unlock all of a class's weapons is insane.” Read the thread The official Season 1 changelog backs the scale of the gripe: the developers tuned progression so a median player at 20–25 hours sits around level 20, and the top items take a long grind.

2. Fights can feel one-sided against better-geared players

The post “This game is an FPS power fantasy for the unemployed” jokes about long-session players in end-game gear dropping on everyone else; its author asks: “What are we employed fodder supposed to do against these warriors??? Help!!!!!” Read the thread

3. Seasonal resets make the grind feel wasted

Progression resets between seasons are the subreddit's loudest running argument. In a thread about the first season reset, u/BeefistPrime wrote: “They basically have the levelling speed of a game that doesn't have wipes, but they have regular wipes.” Read the comment

What to do about the three biggest complaints

  1. If the grind puts you off: main one role instead of spreading XP across tracks, and treat top-tier items as a season-long project, because that is how the developers tuned it. Never touch cash or XP exploits and never trade for real money — per the Update 0.1.2 policy, abusing exploits or real-money trading resets your cash and progression and risks a permanent ban. Our WARDOGS tips collect the legitimate ways to earn faster.
  2. If better-geared players ruin your matches: hit DEPLOY (the server-selection flow added in Update 0.1.2 on September 30, 2026) and pick a Low-Level or Infantry Mode community server — fan guides recommend Low-Level servers for new players. You can also contribute without end-game gear: points come from having players inside the Control Zone, not from kills. More in WARDOGS tips.
  3. If seasonal resets are a dealbreaker: BULKHEAD itself says waiting is fine — the developers encouraged refunding if the beta did not meet expectations and said waiting for a later update or 1.0 is “completely okay”. Decide with what the game is and the Steam price and editions ($39.99 for the base game on US Steam).

And if what is blocking you is a crash rather than a design debate, start with our crash-fix page: the WD-L020 crash on Windows 11 was fixed by updating the game in Update 0.1.2, and Steam's Verify Integrity tool repairs damaged game files.

Check the date before you trust a Reddit complaint

WARDOGS has been in Steam Early Access since September 10, 2026, and balance changes every season: Season 02 went live on October 15, 2026 and added four weapons and four vehicles. A hot Reddit post can describe a bug that is already fixed, or unlock times that no longer apply. Read the post's date first, then compare it against the official patch notes below.
